Opal Legbar
Opal Legbars are a rare, new addition to the world of auto-sexing breeds. Created by Candace Waldon, Opal Legbars are barred lavender birds that are A-B-C perfect: Auto-sexing, lay Blue eggs, and have whimsical Crests. Four Acorns Farm Opal Legbars are Candace Waldon stock.
Opal Legbar males are beautifully barred lavender with golden highlights. When the sun hits them just right, these birds glimmer! Opal Legbar hens are pearl gray with either silver barring or light straw yellow accenting around their necks. Some hens also have light peach breasts.
Opal Legbars are bountiful layers of blue eggs and will begin producing between 22-24 weeks old. [As with all blue egg layers, color perception is dependent on light conditions in which they are viewed, as well as the laying cycle of the hen.]
These are curious and friendly birds sporting a cute comb-back pompadour and upright tail feathers.
Differentiating males from females at hatch is easy with this autosexing breed. The male chicks will have a lighter color and a white/yellow spot on their heads. Female chicks are darker with distinct stripes and eyeliner.
