Basketry is the art and craft of making interwoven objects, usually containers, from flexible fibers. It is both one of mankind's oldest art forms and tools. Come join our creative community as we venture into basketry in Four Acorns Farm's 1880's barn class and event space next to the new, rare breed Chicken Barn. In this class, artist/instructor Laura Menard will guide you through the construction of a intermediate-level medium tote basket. This is a rectangular, handled basket with an open weave base. The class will cover which tools to use, how to work with reed, and how to start, shape, and finish your basket. Resources and basket inspiration will also be shared.
Class fee is $120. Your $40 materials fee will be paid in class and covers all the reed necessary to finish this project, and the required tool kit, prepared by your instructor.
Registration is online through Cabrillo College Extension. No drop ins.
No experience required! Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing that can get messy. Please bring your own lunch as we’ll pause for a mid day break.
