Backyard Chicken Keeping for Beginners

Have you thought about raising your own chickens? Want the convenience of home grown organic eggs? Want fabulous chicken manure for your compost and garden? Wish you had a rainbow in your egg basket - white, dark chocolate, pale pink, green, blue, and brown eggs? All of these reasons and more, but not sure what steps to take for a successful adventure in Backyard Chickens? Or maybe you need a refresher?

Come spend the morning with Laura of Four Acorns Farm who has been keeping and breeding chickens since 2004.

This 3-hour class will:

... discuss the various chicken breeds that are good choices for a backyard coop with information on egg colors, egg production, bird temperament, meat vs. egg chickens, heat/cold hearty, free range vs. coop/run suitable, etc.

... review chicken housing (coop and run) needs and options, predator proofing, etc.

... discuss general zoning and code regulations regarding chicken keeping

... review various feed options including organic feeds, treats, and supplements

... discuss general chicken care and health from a proactive perspective

... chick care (brooders, feed, handling, etc) to point of lay and coop transition

... class size is limited to 10 adults

Adults (18 and up): $30 (no children during Covid, I'm sorry)
